The Art of Oral Storytelling

An oral story is most often much more streamlined and shorter than its written counterpart.

An oral storyteller draws a sketch with words that each listener fills out in their own way based on their memories and imaginations. There is an art to giving just enough detail.

The teller describes one scene and there are as many different scenes as there are listeners.

In this way, the teller speaks in particulars that become a universal.
